Brief Description:  Cowling fitting

Fitting the top cowling half and there is more triming to do around the spinner. The Whirlwind spinner back plate has a tapered angle that interferes with the internal lip in the cowling so the lip needs to be removed. I thought it would weaken the center spinner area but it seems pretty sturdy still although the plan now is to back this area up with many layers of epoxy and cloth to try and get back to factory rigidity. When spaced from the spinner with the test shim (an AN3 bolt), the gaps look good and the rear trim line looks pretty close although it is definitely a litle long which is better than short. Got the propeller bolts safety wired while I was working on the spinner back plate. These are a royal pain to do as there is not much room to work with and the space from the hub to the prop bolt barely is enough for a single .041 safety wire and not enough for a twisted pair so planning the bolt pairs is important.
