The choke cable was binding at the solid shaft that has the knob attached to because it had sharp edges and was binding in side it's sleeve. I had to cut the cable of the crimped on cable end and debur the shaft and then shorten the cable end past the old crimp and drill it out to accept the cable outer ready for a new crimp.
The cable outer is about 3/4" shorter after cutting off the previous crimp
