Brief Description: SB 14-01-31 Horizontal stabiliser forward spar mod
Vans Aircraft released Service Bulletin 14-01-31. This was in relation to the horizontal stabiliser forward spars cracking. I decided to carry out the modification now, rather than in the future, should cracking occur. As it was not painted, it would be less disruptive. I did the modification over several weeks. The SB took longer than anticipated, as I was not happy with the rivet holes in the forward spars post disassembly. I ordered two new HS-702 forward spars (actually ordered 3) and HS-810-1 & HS-814-1 reinforcing angles. As I was changing the forward spars, the stabiliser was completely disassemble, except for the rear spar. Stuart Webb, an RV-7 builder (see his KitLog Pro page) from Charleville, Queensland, also assisted with the modification (he had recently completed the mod on his stabiliser).
