Brief Description:  Purchased Engine 1

Today I drove down to Waco to pick-up the engine for my RV-6A. The seller posted the engine for sale on the Vans forum. I didn't procrastinate this time and jumped on it right away. We e-mailed back and forth Wednesday and Thursday. I drove down on Friday, inspected the engine and logs, loaded it up and brough it home.

Thursday night I made a transport stand for the engine. The engine is supported via the two lower engine mount points and the prop flange. I wasn't sure of the exact length of the engine, so I pre-made and drilled the stand and then assembled it on the engine. I have the engine mount for my kit already so I used that to determine the proper angles for the engine mount boss. It had been raining quite a bit so I planned ahead and took a bunch of plastic to wrap the engine for transport.

The engine is an O-360-A2A with ~394 hours since new. It was converted for a constant-speed prop back when it was new, so it is set up as an O-360-A1A. A few years back it was disassembled, inspected, and updated for all ADs. The cyl were honed and new rings installed. I have the logs since new, including the original cert from lycoming. I also have the yellow tags for the accessories.

The mechanic the did the teardown leaft the front crank seal out intentionally so it wouldn't dry out (I have the new seal). The engine was pickled with preservative oil, sealed, and stored. The engine is basically ready to run right now. It just needs to have the front seal installed and the forward crank plug. I will likely go through (or send out for inspection) the mags and carb. I will also replace the plugs and ignition wires before using the engine. The old ones are in decent shape, but there is no reason to start my new plane with old spark plugs. Since I will have a fixed-pitch prop, I'll need to remove the prop governor and either keep it for later or sell it. I will likely sell it, since I have no way of knowing if I will use a compatable prop years down the road, depends on what it is worth.
