With real work keeping me so busy this week, I didn't get much done on the plane (the below freezing temperatures didn't help either).
During the week I received the parts I ordered from Vans including the stock so I could make a new lower longeron. I did a little bit of work on the longeron Thursday evening, but it isn't worth another log entry so all work is in this entry.
Using the old longeron as a template, I cut the stock to length and contoured the aft end to clear the main gear tower. I clamped the longeron in place and match-drilled it to the firewall weldments.
I then used the F-6101 gusset (which was still fitted in place) to match-drill the holes for the gear bolts. Like when I drilled the gear to the spar I used a series of bushings to keep the hole dead-center and then finished the hole with the ream. The holes came out perfect and I test-fitted the longeron to the gear tower to make sure.
I finished up by match-drilling the rivet holes for the skin and countersinking the longeron. A coat of primer, some fresh bolts for the firewall weldment and the job was done.
