Way back when I was working in the fuselage skeleton I referenced drawing 59 which shows a keep-out area along the lower longeron fron F-604 forward about 4 3/4 inches. This is where the main gear weldment will be bolted to the longeron. What the plans didn't mention (and I didn't catch at the time) is that there is a second section where the forward tab of the weldment will also bolt to the longeron.
I realized my mistake when I was fitting the right lower longeron, but I had already drilled the left side. I opted to wait until I fitted the gear to see if there was a problem or it I would luck out. Unfortunately, I didn't luck out and there is a rivet hole way to close to one of the bolt holes.
I decided to just go ahead and replace the lower longeron and doubler. I will have to talk to Van's about the skin since I will have one hole with no place to go. For now, I flattened the dimple and will have to see what they say. It should be fine since the heavy structure under the skin will be solid.
I ordered the replacement parts from Vans on Thursday, they should be here this week.
