Brief Description:  Prep for First Wing Fit 1

The first fitting of the wings to the fuelage is not far off. Once I finish the last of the riveting on the fuselage (less the cabin bottom skins) I will have to mount the wings so I can drill the main gear towers. After work today I went by a local hobby shop and picked up various sizes of metal tubing. The tubing will act as a drill bushing so the drill bit doesn't damage the bolt holes in the main spar.

The different sized of tubing nest within eachother with the ID of the smallest tube being 1/8" which I can use as a pilot for the 3/16 both holes. The largest tube has an OD of 1/4" and an ID of 7/32 so I can use that for the 1/4" holes.

While I was messing around in the shop I pulled out my wing splice plates, deburred, edge-finished, primered and painted them. I will have to clean the paint out of the holes before I fit the wings, but for now the paint will prevent rust.

I considered taking the splice plates to be power coated or cadnium plated, but just couldn't risk them being damaged or lost. These slice plates are match-drilled to the main wing spar in Vans fixture and are not easily replaced or replaceable at all.
