Today I riveted the left tailcone side skin on. I did not rivet the area around the radius of the bulkheads since that will have to wait until I put the bottom skin in place. With the bottom skin removed, I can accomplish a good portion of the riveting myself. It is hard to get my wife out in the shop when it is 103 degrees in there, so this methid works well.
Maybe I am loosing my mind, but the dimples don't seem to be as nice as they used to come out. I might order a new set of 3/32 dies just to be sure.
I ended up using a few blind rivets. I put some rivet holes in the bulheads a little close to the longeron, so trying to shoot these would put a seam in the skin. Rather than put dents in the skin, I opted to just use a few MK-319-BS blid rivets. I also had one rivet in the stringer just about the inspection hole that was giving me trouble. For the life of me I could not shoot this rivets straight. After a couple tries with a -3 rivet I tried a -4 "oops" rivet and managed to bugger that up also. I ended up dimpling it for a 1/8 rivet and using a CS4-4 blind rivets. Not as pretty, but will get the job done.
