Brief Description:  Forward Bottom Skin 2

Today I fitted and assembled the forward floor stiffeners. I then drilled them to the firewall. Since the newer RV-6 fuselage kit uses the RV-7/9 firewall, the dimensions on the plans for the layout of the stiffeners is not correct. It is a good thing I did a test-fit of the tunnel because if U used the exact dimensions from the plans it would not have fit. The distance between the two inboard stiffeners has to be 0.15 inches wider than specified on the plans. It is not much, but if you don't move them this little bit apart, the tunnel won't fit.

To hold the stiffeners in place on the spar-side, I cut them to final length per plans and then cleco'd some angle to the false spar and then clamped the stiffeners to that angle. I put the angle attached to the false spar so it was 90 degrees to the plane of the bottom skin. This would properly twist the angle to make the transition from the flat firewall to the sloped bottom at the carrythrough.
