Brief Description: Level and Square Right Wing Skeleton
In preparation for riveting the leading edge and top skins on the wing, I leveled and squared up the skeleton. Started by using clecos to run a string with plumb bob on one end across the spar and then used the remaining string and a clamp as a weight on the other end. Pulled the string tight and then jacked up the center of the rear spar until the spar rivet holes were parallel to the taught string. Also used a carpenter's level to level the spar from side to side.
Measured the distance from the rear spar to the plumb bob string at the root and compared to the string at the tip. Distances were close but I needed to have a way to adjust the difference and secure the lower part of the skeleton for riveting. I added a horizontal bracket made from left-over angle I had used to make the original wing supports and this lined up nicely with the inboard wing mounting tab. On the outboard end I used a combination of a hardwood flooring slat and a piece of 2 x 4 to make an "L" shaped bracket. This was necessary to clear the skin where it extends past the outboard rib.
