Brief Description:  Rivet Inboard Top Skin Right Wing

I did a final check of the wing for straightness and level and made sure it was secure on the stand. Then Frances and I began back-riveting the inboard skin on. She used the large bucking bar on the top of the wing and I used a 12 inch back riveting tool to set the shop heads. I wrapped the shaft of the back rivet tool with duct tape to protect the ribs and was able to get good shop heads on the rivets. We worked in a pattern starting in the center of the skin and setting rivets up and down the rib, then moving over a rib and doing the same, alternating ribs on either side of center. We also filled in rivets on the main spar and aft spar as we went. We had about 5 rivets that either had bad shop heads or were not flush on the skin that will have to be drilled and replaced.

The rivets along the bottom inboard edge are blocked by the rear spar re-inforceing plates and will have to be set with the gun on the outside and a bucking bar on the shop head.
