Mounted the right elevator to locate required cut out for rear spar flange. I modified a pair of inexpensive needle nose pliers to hold the bolts by grinding a notch in the pliers and shortening the nose. Gave an excellent grip on the bolt to help insert it through the mounting backet and rod end bearing. Also used an allen wrench to assist in alignment. Removed the right elevator and mounted the left and marked the flange again. Drilled the corners and used scrap aluminum as a backstop to ensure we did not hit the spar reinforcement plates. Cut the sections out with dremel also using the aluminum to protect the structure below. Smoothed all edges with files, sanding and scotchbrite. Checked elevator swing and we have 35 degrees up and 30 degrees down on both sides. Per Section 15 the maximum required is 30 degrees up and 25 degrees down, so we have more than we need at this point.
