Brief Description:  Skin on Left Elevator

Another snow day in Virginia. I cleco'd the elevator together and fit the fiberglass tip. I filed the end to fit the trailing edge and trimmed the counterweight cut out per plans. Measured the depth to the ribs and trimmed off the edge of the tip with my bench-mounted dremel tool. Got the tip to fit up nicely and drilled the mounting holes to #30. The edge distance of these holes seems insufficient, so I will add aluminum backing plates before final assembly as I saw on the VAF website. I marked and drilled the holes to rivet the folded tabs by the trim tab cut out per the plans. Disassembled the structure, deburred and dimpled holes for the fiberglass tip, also deburred the holes in the folded tabs. Put a dab of "sensor safe' RTV sealant at the trailing edge of the stiffeners. Riveted on the E-713 counterweight skin to the main skin with two rivets top and bottom. Re-assembled per the plans and riveted the skin to the under structure. Was able to squeeze almost all the rivets around the edge. Had one bad rivet that was drilled out but the hole was oversized so I used an "oops" rivet to replace. Used offset riveting for the second last rivet at the trailing edge, placed a MS-319BS blind rivet in the last hole on top and bottom. Also riveted the folded tab per the plans.
