Brief Description:  Riveting Rudder

Completed riveting the rudder skins to the spar, then pulled the cleco's from one side of the ribs and trailing edge to set up for putting tank sealant in the trailing edge. We set everything up and did a dry run to orchestrate the sealer application, inserting the wedge, and second application of sealant. Waxed the aluminum angle with Turtle Wax so the sealant wouldn't stick, mixed the sealant tube per directions and applied to the trailing edge. Put in the wedge, applied the second layer of sealant and then cleco'd every hole in the trailing edge to the angle aluminum. Process went well and we cleaned off the excess sealant with MEK, then re-cleco'd the ribs. Proceeded to rivet the skins to the ribs. Most were reached with my squeezer, some with a borrowed "no hole" yoke. There were a few rivets we couldn't squeeze and we practiced the "indirect riveting" method on these as seen on EAA's hints to homebuilders. Indirect rivets worked well, but there were a couple of places we still couldn't get to and resorted to the pulled rivets as called out in the plans. So far the trailing edge is very straight, double flush rivets will be next.
