Brief Description:  Vertical Stab Assembly

Furlough day six. Last one according to SECDEF. I started today by drilling out the two remaining rivets in the skeleton and starting over on riveting the ribs to the forward spar. Used a lower pressure on the air (50 lbs) and taped the end of the rivet set. Also made a better effort to secure the pieces to the bench before riveting. Several clamps on the spar worked well. Set good rivets in the tip rib and middle rib. The bottom rib required using the offset rivet set and a higher pressure, but finally got good rivets here, too. Put the skin on the skeleton and experimented with ways to rivet the skin on solo. Ended up with putting the stab on the jig so I could have the work secured, reach inside to buck the rivet, see the bucking bar and gun alignment, and run the gun. This orientation also allowed me to use the forward spar to register the bucking bar, ensuring it was square to each rivet. Completed riveting the skin to the skeleton, wiped down the inside of the stab and cleco'd on the rear spar.
