Brief Description:  Bending the Longerons Part 2

Once we had the gradual curve done on both longerons, we moved on to the sharp downward bend. We did this as described in the plans, clamping the longeron securely in the vice, pre-loading the bar and giving a good whack with a dead blow hammer. We set up a block of wood to measure progress and took several hits to get the bend to the proper angle. I had traced the side skin on a piece of cardboard and we used that as a double check to the measurerments from the plans.

We reset the bar to level and marked the end on the block before twisting with a large crescent wrench. Had to twist around quite far to get the desired angle and deflection as specified in the plans due to the spring-back of the longeron.

Repeated this process for the second longeron.

Once done we did a final check against the templates and laid them out to make certain we had a left and right longeron.
