Brief Description:  Wash, Prime and Rivet Aileron Tubes

I scuffed the outside of the W-716 tubes with scotchbrite and tied a some scotchbrite strips to a string and pulled them through the tube several times in both directions to scuff the inside. Stapled emory cloth to a dowel and chucked it in the drill to scuff the inside of the W-818s.

Washed all parts in Dawn dish soap and warm water. Set out on the deck to dry overnight.

After parts were dry. I thinned some general purpose latex primer from the aviation section of the local hardware store and used a syringe as a funnel to coat the inside. Set aside to drain excess primer and dry. Rotated parts several times to minimize primer build up at the end of the tube. I used the Napa 7220 to spray down inside the W-716 tubes while shoooting some compressed air in the end. Was able to make primer "fog" come out the far end of the tube and it appeared to coat the inside fairly well. Sprayed the outside and let everything dry overnight.

Once all was dry, I riveted the rod ends on the W-716s with pulled rivets. I used the piece of leather to protect the tube when the mandrels broke on the rivets. Set up the C-frame, shortened some -12 rivets to -11 and 1/2 on the scotchbrite wheel and riveted the threaded ends on the W-818s.
