Research on bending the trailing edge confirmed what I was experiencing with the wide boards, I needed more bending closer to the trailing edge. Saw a couple of builders who used 2 x 4s mounted to edge of workbench to make a brake to squeeze the trailing edge of the aileron. Dis-assembled the old brake and re-used the hinges with some straight 2 x 4's. Screwed the bottom board to the edge of the workbench level with the top of the bench. It looks like this configuration will work.
