Brief Description:  Install 5 Ribs with Sealant

In preparation for installing the 5 interior fuel tank ribs with sealant I cleaned the interior mating surfaces of the tank and edges of the ribs with MEK. Prepared two 80 gram batches of flame master selant by weighing out the hardener and material separately. Arranged all parts to put ribs in correct order and have tools at the ready. Mixed one batch of sealant and Frances and I each worked to spread sealant on the inside of tank along rib lines and on the edges of the ribs. Plastic picnic knives with serrated edges made good tools to get a nice even layer of selant all around. As we ran low on first batch I mixed second batch to expedite getting all ribs ready. As we prepared each rib we installed it with one cleco from the inside of tank. Once al ribs had sealant we pressed tank skin onto ribs and I used a pick to align rivet holes and installed clecos in all holes on top side of tank. Rolled tank over and installed clecos on bottom of tank. Removed clecos from inside and transferred them to outside of tank. Used a popsicle stick to make fillets around all ribs for a continuous seal. Forgot to put tape lines down parallel to ribs, so sealant edges are not as neat as on the stiffeners.
