Brief Description:  Make Tank Flapper Valves

Decided to put the optional tank flapper valves on the first rib outboard of the fuel pickup. These are on the plans as something to do if installing a flop tube, which I am not using. However, after research on VAF site I favor the idea of trapping fuel in the bay with the fuel pickup to help ensure fuel is closest to pick up in maneuvering flight at lower fuel levels.

Located piano hinge and .025 sheet stock to make parts. Cut the flappers out on the band saw. Used the dremel cut off wheel to trim the piano hinge. Smoothed all edges. Marked hinge pieces for drilling. Match drilled flapper and hinge. Deburred holes and countersunk hinge for flush rivets. Riveted flapper to hinge with AD 426 3-3 rivets. Assembled flapper to other half of hinge and located assembly to give 1/8 inch clearance from bottom of rib to allow for tank sealant. Marked and match drilled hinge and rib. Deburred all holes. Riveted with AD470 4-4 rivets. Cut hinge pin approx 1/4 inch short, inserted pin and crushed hinge loops on each end to capture pin. Repeated all processes for left wing tank.
