Brief Description:  Rivet Right Elevator Skeleton

Began riveting the skeleton with Jason bucking the rivets. We riveted the tip rib and counterbalance rib together. Attached the spar reinforcing plates and nut plates to the spar with the gun and bucking bar. Used the squeezer for attaching the E-709 rib to the spar in the countersunk/dimpled holes for flush rivets. Attaching the 703/704 assembly proved to be the most difficult task of the day. Access to the rivets was tight and our first rivet, done with an offset in the gun and bucking bar, began to bend over instead of driving straight. We attempted to drill it out but access to the factory head was tough (poor choice for rivet orientation). We elected to cut the base off and knock out the rivet with a punch. We made sure to support the underlying structure when driving the rivet, and sucessfully removed the bad rivet. Second attempt went well and other three rivets in this junction went OK, but were still a challenge. Finished today with a nice set of rivets on the elevator horn, WD-605.
