Brief Description:  Bending Elevator Trailing Edges

Made the bending brake as described in the plans from 2x8 lumber and door hinges. Jason and I bent the trailing edge of right and left elevators. Right took a good amount of pressure, but the left was much easier, due to the cut out for the trim tab. Moved on to preparing the skeleton for the right elevator. Cleco'd on the spar reinforcing plates and drilled them with #30 drill. Assembled and drilled the tip rib and counterbalance rib and drilled them to the spar. Removed the ribs from the spar and put the E-714 counterweight on the forward end and cleco'd on the counterbalance skin. Used the skin as a drill guide and drilled #12 hole through the lead counter weight. We used 3 in 1 oil as the drilling lubricant. I drilled free hand as the assembly would not fit in my drill press. The hole is not a straight as I would like and so we modified the drill press to drill the second hole straight through the counterweight. Upon reflection, for the left elevator I will use the skin to mark the counterweight then disassemble and drill straight holes through the weight in the drill press, reassemble and complete drilling through the ribs.
