Brief Description:  Final Prep and Prime for Rudder Parts

Second full furlough day. Started with drilling the E-614-020 counterweight to the counterbalance rib. Deburred the holes then prepared to dimple for a #10 screw, but found the largest dimple die in my set is #8. Once again I went to VAF website and found that the #10 die is only used a few times and read a process to make your own die and use the scew itself to make the dimple. Off to the aviation department at the Home Depot for some 1/4 inch aluminum stock and I made the die by drilling and countersinking the bar stock for a #10 screw. I set the microstop .005 deeper than flush, as if this was for a countersink that would receive a dimple. Also made a spacer block from the stock. Dimples came out fine and counterweight was easily machine countersunk. Changed the countersink cutter to #40, recalibrated it on scrap, and then countersunk both sides of the R-916 trailing edge wedge. Washed all the parts in Dawn soap and warm water, then let them air dry. Set up the downdraft paint table, masked parts and shot with NAPA 7220 primer.
