Brief Description:  Firewall Insulation

This is the start of the firewall soundproofing and insulation. The material is ½” thick closed cell vinyl-nitride with sticky backing and adds both thermal and sound insulation. The tricky part of the installation is getting it in the right position before letting it touch the firewall because once it sticks, it’s there for good. I’m making cardboard templates first and using them to mark the back to the insulation. I have been using a utility and X-acto knife for cutting and that is working fine. I have the top part of the firewall done, but the real test is the lower firewall, the pieces are much bigger and it is harder to reach in there for placement. Cheryl is in a golf tournament tomorrow, so I plan to return to the hanger and try to finish it so I can go on to the wheel pants next week. The list gets shorter but there is still a lot to do to get her flying. The fiberglass work including the wheel fairings, cowl and canopy will take a month or two.
