Brief Description: Fabrication of tunnel cover and cabin cover
Today I fabricated the tunnel cover which covers the elevator push tube between the seats and started the center cabin cover assembly. This basically is the place to run the wires and plumbing from the instrument panel and engine to other locations in the plane and vice versa. The rear part of this assembly holds the fuel selector and the front covers the electric fuel pump and is also the heat box which allows heated air from a exhaust heat muff into the cabin for to warm the cabin on cold days. Fabrication was straight forward to plans and is basically aluminum sheet and angle construction with a lot of nut plates for easy removal for maintenance. The heat shield for the fuel pump is riveted to the heater box and the fuel selector plate required fabrication from aluminum sheet. Tomorrow I will finish riveting the nutplates in place and prime the inside surfaces. I finished the tunnel cover in picture 1 including priming and riveting and it is now ready to install with 8/32 screws into the existing nutplates.
