Brief Description:  Setting the wing incidence and sweep

Today I set the wing for the critical incidence set and to ensure there is no sweep in the wings. I also squared both wings, including measurements from each wing tip to the rudder spar. The first step was using a laser and four plumb lines all in the same plane, easy to say but more difficult to do. The plum lines are set from the wing leading edge at the root and tip on both wings. After a lot of pushing, pulling, lifting and tugging, it was spot on. Then I measured from each wing tip at the rear spar to the stabilizer tips at the rear spar. Good news the dimension were identical to 1/32” at 138 ¾”. Then per the instructions and Drawing 38 with a 3” block and the rear spar web and a Smart level, I pushed up or down at the rear spar attach point until I got it to 0.0 degrees. I marked the hole point at ¾” up and ¾” in from the end and I am now ready to drill that critical hole. I will have Ed Booth take a look first and ensure I did everything to the book and will start with a 12” #40 drill and work up to a the final 5/16 ream. That is for the next time in the shop.
