Brief Description:  Seaking off the fuel tanks and senders

I finished off the tanks today and I am really glad this part of the construction is over. The Proseal used to seal in the plates and senders is just messy stuff and somehow seems to get on everything. I think the trick is using tongue depressors to spread the goop and a lot of surgical gloves changed frequently. I also don’t think it pays off to try to make the seams beautiful. I just coated the mating surfaces and evenly screwed them down. Note that I changes to socket head cap screws in case this ever needs to come apart. I don’t think it would be possible to get the screws out in my lifetime if they were Phillips!
I called Vans because of feedback on leaky tanks and their latest advice is to forgo the gaskets and just use Proseal. I guess the gaskets deteriorate over time and spring leaks, where as the straight Proseal between the surfaces last for a very long time.
I borrowed a Gram scale from my fried Cal Hoffman to mix the 10 to 1 by weight ratios of Proseal properly and it worked fine. I needed to put plastic over the scale and tape it down to keep his scale pristine, did I mention how messy this stuff is?
You can see the messy results from the pictures; next step is one more leak test with the balloons and soapy water and re-installation in the wings.
