Brief Description:  Tube bending tools, philosophy.

I wish someone had told me how easy 4130 tube is to work with. Really.

I had worried about what extravagant tools I was going to need to cut fishmouths and to bend with.
If you need to do something with 4130, look around your garage--you probably have the tools. It bends easily (at least up to .625" dia). For my cockpit overhead arc I bent the tube over this kerosine can. Well, it's full of kerosene right now, so I used this piece of tree that serves as a chopping block, Schnauzer-shaving stand, and now PRECISION TUBE BENDER. I highly recommend it. It's heavy, and doesn't move around except when you need it to. The bark is soft, so it's gentle on the tube exterior. It's also not perfectly round, so you can eyeball it and find a spot that has the kind of radius you are shooting for.

Mark the spot you need to work, put it on the tree, push the ends down slowly, and take out what you don't need. Put it on the shape you've drawn out on plywood and make it match. Be patient. Don't worry.
