Brief Description: Rudder Stops

I headed to Home Depot early this morning before starting work again on the plane. I wanted to purchase some non-ferrous #10 fasteners to mount the ADAHRS. I also wanted to get some ratcheting wrenches (for the plane) and a Sawzall (for home renovation projects). HD had washers and nuts, but no screws or bolts. I picked up the wrenches and saw and headed home. I started working on the rudder stops. I remember from build logs that the stops, when built to plans, are too short. I calculated my own dimensions and they came out to be exactly the same as the plans. Unfortunately, I must not have had the stop clamped tightly enough to the fuse because I ended up with 3/4" between the rudder and elevator at full deflection instead of the 1.125" I had before I drilled the holes. I then cut a second piece of angle, and in my frustration, I tried to match the hole locations by measuring. That didn't work so then I got my head back in the game and made a template as I should have done instead of measuring. I cut a third piece of angle and made it 0.125" longer than my first attempt. After clamping tightly to the fuse, I did not have nearly enough travel. I gradually trimmed the stop until it was only 3/32" of an inch longer than the first stop. This resulted in a perfect 1.125" distance at full deflection. Unfortunately, Van's only supplies enough angle to make one mistake. I need two rudder stops, I have three, and I am still one stop short. Time to call Aircraft Spruce. I almost forgot. My beautiful up elevator stop is useless as the elevator horns contact the aft bulkhead and never make it to the stop. I saw where someone else (Mike Bullock?) had the same issue and had to construct a supplementary stop. Something else to research.
