Brief Description:  Top Skins

I spent most of last week in Memphis, TN for work. It was my first visit to Memphis and I enjoyed the BBQ and music on Beale St. I'll be glad to get the RV finished as it would have been less than 3.5 hours of flying instead of 12 hours of driving each way.

I drilled the F-656 Gusset Plates to the longerons and bulkheads. I primed them and riveted them to the fuselage. I finally finished the ends of the F-786A Top Fuselage J-Stringers that I cut eons ago. I marked the centerlines and taped them to the bulkheads so that they would not move when I clecoed the top skins in place.

I clecoed the skins into place and drilled them starting with the intersections of the J-Stringers and Bulkheads. The forward top skin required that the F-788 Gusset be slid into place and the four holes in the top skin matchdrilled to the gusset. Easy enough.

The plans call for the F-709 Bulkhead to be installed now but I had already riveted it to the aft deck last week. "He Who Shall Not Be Named" had done just that in his build and it worked just fine.

I fabricated the F-707B Clip and drilled using the pre-punched holes in the bulkhead and F-787 as guides. I somehow lost my 12" #30 drill last weekend, but my 90 degree angle drill worked just fine.

I fit the F721A L&R to the longerons and drilled and dimpled them. I countersunk the longerons and primed the bare metal. I am out of AN426AD3-5 rivets and need to order more (and Jon's hinge). In addition to losing my #30 drill, I can't find my rudder cable fairings I ordered from Avery Tools some time ago. Need to clean the garage! I ran the rudder cables through the snap bushings and called it a night.
