Brief Description:  Center Fuselage Assembly Ready for Priming

Very little accomplished tonight, but a heck of a lot of internet research. My sticking point (this time), was the outboard five holes on either side on the bottom of the F-704A where the F-776 bottom skin and F-772 bottom skin will get riveted. The way that I read the plans, was that these rivets need to be installed "double flush." This requires countersinking the top of the F-704A bottom bar and dimpling the skins. Van's FAQ on the subject states that this involves the tricycle gear models only but I wasn't seeing that on the plans. My uncertainty derived from not knowing whether to follow the plans as I understood them or the FAQ. This launched numerous searches of builders sites to see what those who have gone before me did. I would think that it would not hurt to install them double flush on tailwheel models as well as nosegear, but then it is quicker to just dimple the holes and roll on. My informal survey led me to believe that most tailwheel plane builders just dimple and even some of the nosewheel plane builders do as well. As I never plan to convert this plane to a nosewheel configuration, I went ahead and dimpled them. I certainly didn't save any time, but perhaps some frustration when it comes time to set the rivets. Anyhow, the center fuselage assembly is now ready for priming and riveting-hopefully this weekend! As a postnote, I received my order from Wick's today-fast shipping!
