Brief Description: Riveted Right Leading Edge to Wing
This weekend has been the first discourgaing period of time I've had since beginning to build. I still cannot find my tungsten bucking bar. I shaped the plexiglass lens for the right Duckworks light installation and managed to put a small crack next to the center hole in the top of the lens. I remembered afterwards that I saw a tip on Shipshape TV from John G. to drill plexiglass in reverse. I will try that on the next lense. I had a heck of a time installing the light bracket in the leading edge. Boelube is wonderous on screws and drills but makes one's hands slippery as well. I couldn't hang on to the screwdriver. Seeing how my weekend was going, I decided to not even attempt to shoot and buck the rivets attaching the leading edge ribs to the main spar. I pulled Cherrymax rivets and had to grind even more off the head of my rivet puller. I was concentrating so hard on getting the rivets in straight that I forgot to switch to longer rivets where the spar doubler is. Out came the drill and in went longer rivets. They drilled out without too much trouble, thankfully. I used the squeezer on the rivets along the edge and three of them had to be drilled out as I let the squeezer slip. I eventually got the right leading edge installed. I edge finished, deburred and dimpled the left leading edge. My wife ran to the store and picked up some balloons for me to leak test the right tank. I tried three times to seal a balloon to the tank using zip ties and electrical tape and each time I had a terrible leak at the attachment. I will try again tomorrow using a hose and fuel lube at the vent elbow. Like I said, a bummer of a weekend.
