Brief Description:  Installed the Horizontal Stabilizer

I figured out why I purchased a #40 drill bushing from McMaster-Carr-it was to go through the bearing on the stab to drill pilot holes in the top of the rudder horn. Unfortunately, I must have ordered the wrong size a couple of years ago as it did not fit in the bearing. I did the best I could and managed to get it drilled without too much trouble. Drilling the holes out to 1/4", was a different story. I forgot the Boelube and burnt my 1/4 drill to a crisp.

I did not follow the plans for mounting the stab to the fuse. The plans call for drilling the holes in the forward spar and then inserting the shims and drilling them using the holes you just drilled. I just inserted the shims, and clamped the heck out of the stab and fuse after Ginger and I measured to make sure the stab was perpendicular to the fuse. I drilled pilot holes with a 12" #40 bit and then used the #12 bit in the angle drill to finish drill them. After each hole, I inserted a bolt to help hold things in place. I did the two outboard holes in the forward spar and then the four holes in the aft spar. Once those bolts were installed, I drilled the two inboard holes on the forward spar. I used a 3/16" drill as a spacer under the rear spar to get the specified elevation.
