Brief Description:  Finishing Rudder Stiffeners, Final Drill to Skin

After a good EAA meeting where they reviewed the equipment and process of spray painting, I bummed a ride in my neighbor's RV7 and went to a fly-in lunch. We flew formation with several other RVs and had a great time. Pat and Joe have both agreed to come by and take a look at my progress to date. I returned home and finished the final shaping and edges of the rudder stiffeners. I then deburred all of the holes on both sides of the 16 stiffeners before I realized that I had not final drilled them to the skins. Good thing I really enjoy the building process. I backed up and final drilled the stiffeners to the skin and deburred them again. I spent an hour removing the blue plastic from the inside of the two rudder skins. I tried the trick of rolling it onto a piece of PVC pipe but could not get that to work for me tonight so I resorted to the tried and true method of pulling it until your finger tips beg for mercy. I dimpled all of the stiffeners using the pneumatic squeezer and dimpled one of the skins with the DRDT-2. I'll dimple the second skin during my next build session. I went back and cut the excess material from HS-603PP that I had overlooked when I constructed the rear spar for the horizontal stabilizer. I was reading Joe Graham's build log on Friday night and saw where he had mentioned that he had to go back and trim the horizontal stabilizer rear spar to allow for elevator control horns to pivot forward and contact the elevator down control stop. This is mentioned on the plans page DW-3 but not mentioned in the construction manual. I had overlooked it as well as at the beginning stages I am trying to follow the manual religiously. Looks like I need to follow the plans and supplement with the manual. I cut the material out with a dremel tool and then smoothed and rounded the edges with a sanding wheel and files.
