Brief Description:  Prep and Prime HS Parts

I am still experimenting with the priming process. Today, I scuffed the parts with a red scotchbrite pad and wiped them with MEK before priming with a self-etching primer. Although the mechanical etching may be redundant when coupled with the chemical etching of the primer, I am leery of relying on the chemical etching only. In the past, while working in the family business, I experimented with an acid etch of aluminum prior to priming with an epoxy primer and ended up with failure of the paint to adhere. The primer I applied today seems to adhere well although I think if I continue with this process I will use something other than MEK to clean the parts. The stuff is extremely strong. The UPS driver commented on the smell as he pulled up to the driveway. I read that other builders have used acetone and I think that I may use that as well. No pics today as all of the parts look the same as before, only now they are a lovely shade of grey.
