Brief Description:  Glareshield Cover, Canopy Frame Handle

Today, I countersunk the F-631 for the AN426 rivets attaching the splice plate. I squeezed the rivets and drilled and countersunk the plastic block for the screws. I bolted the block to the F-631 and then went to work cutting the rear canopy window to final shape. It is supposed to get cooler in the next day or so and I wanted to get the cut done while it was warm. I sanded the edges smooth and put the canopy away for the time being. Pete arrived, and we went to work installing the glareshield cover. I purchased the edge trim and cover material from Classic Aero and I am quite pleased with their product. The edge trim arrives with a plastic template that you use to mark the screw holes for the edge trim. Tape it in place, mark the holes, and drill away. After removing the edge trim, we used wax paper to trace the outline we previously marked on the C-702 glareshield skin where the canopy will rest. We taped the wax paper to the bottom of the glareshield cover material and cut it to shape. We then cut it again slightly inboard of the line to allow room for the Sika when we glue the canopy. Pete and I looked at how to mount the 80mm muffin fans I purchased from Stein Air. They fit perfectly between the canopy frame brace and the forward bar of the canopy frame. I think I need at least .875" of space behind the forward bar and the edge of the fan to allow for the panel and aluminum angle brace at the top. I am not sure how best to proceed. Do I remove part of the angle brace at the top of the panel? I don't think that I would remove part of the canopy frame brace that is riveted in place but maybe so. Jed at Stein Air said that he used these fans in his RV-7, so I will try to call him tomorrow and ask what he did.
