Brief Description:  Static Line and Mounting Vertical Stab

Labor Day. I got a late start on the plane after doing research on how and where to mount the Comm, ADSB, and Xpndr attennas. Lots of opinions and the ever present AC43.13-1B/2B pored over. I finally decided that I wasn't getting any closer to finishing this plane and put the attennas off for another day. My SafeAir instructions had a picture (and made a point) of supporting the T union with a piece of angle for support. I had some scrap with the correct size hole already in it and so I got to squeeze two rivets for the first time in awhile. Pete and Kecia came back over with some delicious ribs for lunch. Pete and I headed back to the grarage to try make some headway on the plane. We drilled and then riveted and bolted the "up elevator stop" to the fuse. Then began the fun of mounting the VS. We got the 7 11/32", made sure the stab was vertical by measurement and Smart Tool, and drilled the two holes through the up elevator stop. We temporarily bolted the VS to the stop and checked the hinge line to make sure it was straight. It was, so we clamped the VS to the front spar and drilled the bolt and rivet holes. After running the four AN3-5A bolts through the front spar and stab, we drilled the three lower AN4 bolt holes through the lower, rear VS spar. The plans specify 1.25" from the centerline but caution you to make sure you have proper edge distance. Needless to say, 1.25" did not work for me. The #30 hole I initially drilled at that location would not have left enough room for a washer and nut due to the flange on the inner tailwheel mount. We moved the right side hole in .25" and that worked well. We then drilled another hole on the left side a similar distance from the center line. I need to check with our EAA Chapter Tech Advisor on how best to handle my unintended "lightening hole."
