Brief Description: Begin Riveting Rudder Skins to Skeleton
Historic day today. I made my first call to Van's Technical Support. I wanted to verify that I was proceeding correctly with the rudder trailing edge before I began to rivet the skins to the skeleton. Ken said I was good to go so I clecoed the skins to the spar and began squeezing. I started with the six rivets on each side that hold the R-901 skins to the R-913 counterbalance skin and then did the three rivets on either side that connect the two skins to the spar. I installed the R-903 tip rib and pulled the two blind rivets connecting the tip rib to the spar. I squeezed the remaining tip rib rivets with the exception of those near the trailing edge. I want to have easy access to the edge when I install the wedge/proseal. I moved on to the rivets that attach the skins to the spar and squeezed those. Next session I will squeeze the rivets along the bottom rib. I need to pick up some popsicle sticks and a box of latex gloves and then install the wedge and let it sit for a few days. I am off Friday so that is my target date for my first run in with proseal.
