Brief Description: Riveting the VS Rear Spar and Skin
My order from Van's finally arrived yesterday. In it was the AN3-5A bolt that I was missing. First order of business was to attach the HS-411BP center bearing to the HS rear spar. Next, I scrubbed the VS and Rudder parts with a Scotchbrite pad and Dawn detergent and water. I primed all of the pieces with the exception of the left and right rudder skins. I tried to prime the skins, but the paint was not cooperating. The Sun set and the temperature dropped before I could get it to spray properly. I will finish them in the morning. I riveted the VS rear spar, doubler and hinge brackets together remembering the flush rivets on the lower rear spar. Riveting the ribs to the front spar went fairly well. I used the pneumatic squeezer wherever possible and bucked the few that remained. I clecoed the skin to the assembly and got one side riveted before calling it quits. These rivets went much better than those in the HS. I used a AN4264-4 in the one hole where I "double dimpled." It is not perfect, but I think that it is the best possible resolution. Tomorrow I will finish the vertical stabilizer.
