Brief Description:  Drilling Horizontal Stabilizer

I began by drilling and clecoing the aft flange of HS-405 to HS-603 using the holes in HS-603 as a guide. I then drilled the holes to attach the skin to HS-405 beginning at the rear spar and working forward. Next, I drilled the holes to attach the skin to the forward spar, HS-702, working outboard to inboard. I then clecoed HS-710 and HS-714 to the HS-702. After ensuring that everything fit tightly together, I used the 12" bit to drill the inboard rib attach holes in HS-405, HS-702, HS-710, HS-714, and HS-404. All of my edge distances turned out within specs with the exception of the forward most holes in the top and bottom of HS-405 on one side. These holes were the ones I had been mulling over for the past several days and then just decided to "build on." I final drilled or match drilled all the remaining holes attaching the skin starting with the intersection of HS-708 and the rear spar and proceeding up along the rib and outward toward the tip. Now that I finally had something that looked like part of an airplane I had to take it apart and drill the outboard most holes on HS-714 and HS-710. I removed HS-714 and HS-710. I then repeated everything for the right side of the horizontal stabilizer. This side went more quickly. Upon finishing, I marked and disassembled all of the parts. I deburred the holes in the skin and skeleton and dimpled the understructure using my pneumatic squeezer. I used a pop rivet dimpler on the two (top and bottom) most forward holes in HS-706. I used the DRDT-2 to dimple the skins and then used the pop rivet dimpler again on a few holes that were difficult to reach with the -2 without bending the skins. Time to decide how I am going to prime these parts, Stewart System? Two part epoxy? NAPA 7220?
