Brief Description:  Front Spar Assembly contd.

I picked up a set of files and a shop vise from Home Depot this morning and then returned home to bend HS-710 and HS-714 to the proper angle. I removed the portion of the HS-702 flange inboard to the bend line. Home Depot didn't have any Unibits in stock so I drilled the relief holes in steps with the bits I had on hand. The results will require a bit more "clean up" than they would have if I had used a Unibit. My neighbor dropped by with a bucket of clecos (Thanks Pat!) and said the spars will be fine once smoothed. I bent the tab ends of the HS-702 to the proper angle and moved on to preparing the ribs. I will need to go back and dimple HS-702 and countersink HS-710 and HS-714. I squared the rib flanges to the web with a hand seamer and then spent twenty minutes looking for my fluting pliers. After checking my spreadsheet which details my tool purchase dates, I discovered that I have yet to buy any fluting pliers. Once again, Pat came to the rescue and offered to loan me a pair. Once I get them from him I will flute the ribs that need it and press on. I notched the aft end of HS-404 to fit around HS-710 and HS-714, making sure that I had a "left" and a "right." I used a cut wheel on a Dremel tool and it worked rather well. At this point I decided to stop and do a little research on the Internet regarding the proper steps to take in drilling HS-405. I recall from reading the exploits of others that some people had an issue with minimum edge distance after drilling the forward flange.
