Brief Description: Main Gear Axle Assembly
|

Time to drill the holes in the axle for the cotter pins for the wheel nuts.
• Used fine point sharpie to mark the location of the top side hole using the wheel nut as guide on both the left and right axles while installed on the gear leg with both wheels snugged into position with the wheel nut.
• Disassembled the right axle, brake assembly, etc. to remove axle from gear leg.
• Placed axle in drill jig to secure, located drill bit on axle for drilling pilot hole. Drilled pilot hole, removed from jib and cleaned.
• Assembled axle and wheel, and cotter pin to ensure fit, disassembled, reassembled axle and wheel nut and cotter pin minus the wheel. Secure axle assembly in vise, and used the wheel nut as a guide to mark a pilot hole for the opposite side of the axle.
• Drilled opposite side of axle pilot hole. Removed wheel nut, final drilled both holes in the axle.
• Cleaned and tested fit reassembling wheel, axle, wheel nut and cotter pin. Disassembled, and re-installed on gear leg all parts including brake assembly.
• Repeated operation for left side axle.
Airframe now sits on tires with properly secured main wheels.
