Brief Description:  Canopy Frame to Top Skin Fitting, Canopy Center Ra

Removed the baggage door and top skin from the fuse in order to trim the trailing edges of the top skin where it overlaps the windscreen support and the left and right wind screen skin supports.

Marked with a straight edge on the left and right side of the interior side of the top skin trailing edges. Used a drimel cutting wheel to trim the top skin, supporting the skin with a chunk of styrofoam clamped into place to prevent the skin from vibrating while cutting.

After trimming the top skin, used the scotch bright wheel to smooth the edges of the top skin and rounded the edges a smidge to remove the sharp 90 degree corner created by the drimel.

Re-attached the top skin clecoing just the instrument panel and a few holes in common with the side skins of the fuse to make sure the top skin was positioned correctely.

Closed the canopy frame as far as it would travel, and attempted to lock into place using the handle and lock latch, but the canopy frame was about 1/4" short. Inspecting for cause indicated the center rail block prevented the canopy rail from full closure.

Removed the center rail block from the fuse, held in place by two screws, several washers and nuts. Disappointed to find the holes previously drilled into the block were off center, but the real problem was the machine countersink needed attention. Thought about ordering a new block from Vans, but realized that correcting would be difficult since the fuse was already matched drilled to the block, and dimpled. I don't think in the long run it is really going to matter, so I corrected the machine countersink of the block, and rounded the top corners for appearance sake.

Reinstalled the block into the center rail and fuse, reinstalled the canopy frame, and close the canopy, and locked unti place - which resolved the 1/4" closure issue.
