Brief Description:  Oshkosh 2018

Flew to OSH 2018 with Debbie Morris in her C182. This is the third year I have flown with Debbie, and the second year I have camped on the field next to the plane. Departed CSH on Sat AM, navigated the west side of a storm front, had 30 knot head wind most of the day, about 50% IMC too. Landed Watertown WI that afternoon, but OSH was IFR and no IFR slot for us. Sunday, we took off around noon and, well, flew some circles near Ripon before landing Dodge County. Later flew back to Watertown for overnight in the FBO. Monday around 7 AM departed Watertown for flew more circles near Ripon, then landed Dodge county. Waited till around noon, listening to Ripon Approach, and tried again this time arrived OSH easily.

OSH is ton of fun. We got very lucky on arrival as we were directed to a parking spot in Vintage close to the medical tent and the ultralight barn.

Enjoyed this year’s event as always, went to many forums including the Lycoming engine assembly and disassembly forums, entertaining and educational - what more can you ask. At Van’s I discussed the HS replacement, and Van’s indicated the only acceptable method is to match drill from the existing #12 holes from inside the fuse aft deck.

Attended the Van's banquet, the Homebuilt Dinner, and the Vintage Dinner, all tremendous fun, good food and friends.

The flight back to CSG was great, easy IFR in and out of the clouds.

I am really hoping I can fly the RV8 to OSH in 2019.
