Brief Description: Wheel Pant Intersection Fairing part 3
My first try at filling the gap of the two halves of the wheel pant intersection fairing did not produce the desired outcome, primarily because the two halves need some convincing to lay flat on the gear leg fairing, now the trailing edge of the forward fairing doesn’t want to lay down.
I taped the trailing edges close together of the forward intersection with aluminum tape, then carefully applied a heat gun to this area to relax the fiberglass fairing. It did not take much time to get the trailing edges to stay in a much more closed position so that when installed on the gear leg, will lay flat on the gear leg fairing.
Waxed the gear leg fairing and waxed the leading wheel pant fairing and attached intersection fairing with paste Nu-Finish, this prevents the epoxy mixture from sticking. Reattached the wheel pants to the gear leg, then applied another liberal amount of West 105/205 with microballons to the fairing gap.
The plan is to sand smooth in place to achieve the desired outcome.
