Brief Description:  Oil Door Cut-Out and Cam Locs

I think I have arrived at the point where I need to locate all of the Cam Loc holes for the bottom cowl. The bottom cowl Cam Locs needs to be installed so the bottom cowl is in place, along with the top cowl, to locate the tabs and cam loc holes for where the top and bottom cowl halves meet.

Due to the battery tray on the right side of the firewall in very close proximity to the cowl, I had to find an alternate light source to provide reverse lighting for locating the cam loc holes. I used several glow sticks because there were small enough to fit between the battery tray and cowl. I cut out the oil door opening in the top cowl in order to place the glow sticks.

Marked the center, and then use a # 40 to locate the cam loc hole. Followed with a unibit to drill a 15/32" hole.

Removed the top and bottom cowl, and completed riveting the remaining cam lock receptacles to the tabs on the firewall perimeter in common with the bottom cowl. I had to remove the right side battery tray support bracket to rivet two of the right side receptacles, and re-install.

Now that I know how to install these it is quite simple to get the correct flush fitting for the cam loc screws so the cowl sites flush with the skin. Adjustments can be made by pulling the locking retaining a bit with a pick to release the receptacle.
