Brief Description: Change in Plan, Cam Locs
|
|
So, originally I was set on cam locs for the cowl fasteners. But, as cost climb, etc., I decided that using the standard hinge and pins method will be good enough for me.
As I was working on the cowl, measuring the air inlet openings to ensure they are the same size, Marty stopped by for a visit. Marty has a E-AB certificate, and flies a MX2 for aerobatic competition. He knows a thing or two so when he makes some comments, I pay attention.
Marty asked about my hinge decision, and offered that he has experience in both, and prefers the cam loc method. Mostly, because as a E-AB airplane, you want no excuse of difficulty getting into the cowl, anywhere you might be located.
So, after a re-think and cost evaluation, I drilled out all rivets for the FW flange hinge for the cowl, which was not difficult. A new #40 and patience at carefully centering the bit and re-checking before making the final plunge.
Ordered cam locs from a well-known supplier, expect delivery later this week.
