Brief Description:  Rudder Horn to Steering Gear

I messed around with the rudder to steering gear springs supplied in the Van’s kit, but the connectors to the rudder horn are steel clips, the rudder horn is aluminum. Over time, I can see these clips wearing through the rudder horn, which would mean a new horn (a new rudder).

Decided to go with the Flyboys steering gear linkage instead. It connects to the rudder horn via an AN3 bolt, so had to open the existing hole in the left side of the rudder horn to accept the bolt. The steering gear has a rod end bearing on both ends. The standard Van’s supplied tail wheel is used minus the steel steering horn, the horn is replaced with the Flyboys supplied tail wheel horn which has a ring on the aft side for tying down the aircraft. The Flyboys horn is attached to the top of the steering gear bolt, the two AN3 bolts installed with the supplied washers, and castle with cotter pins installed to keep everything in place.
