Brief Description:  Avionics Software Updates and iPad Discovery

Proceeded with updating the G3X Touch system with the latest software downloaded from Garmin. The process is simple, simply go to Garmin.com and pick the software you need and download to a clean SD card. Then insert the card into the G3X system and power up. The system recognizes the software and updates the associated LRUs on the Can Bus. After the update, it reboots and it's ready to go. The update corrected the 'Pitch Servo Hardware Problem' message.

The next big test (to me anyway) was to run a Magnetometer Interference Test. This is required for the G3X to use the Magnetometer for determine magnetic heading. The GMU 22 is located mid fuse behind the rear baggage compartment, and I have taken measures to prevent interference, but still concerned (enough that I previously routed wire through the right wing in case I had to move the GMU 22).

The interference test is conducted by powering up all the electrical equipment and moving all flight controls in a documented sequence, in 10 second intervals. At the end, the G3X reports the test results. For me, thankfully, the max variance detected was 5% of the limit, and occurred at full right rudder.
