Brief Description:  Landing and Recognition Lights

Finally got around to testing the exterior lighting. The rear strobe/recognition light has been in place for several weeks, but the nav/strobe and landing/recognition lights are installed in the wing tips and not yet tested. I placed the wing tips on rolling carts next to each wing and connected the lights to the wiring existing the end of the wings. Then, turned on each light to see if they worked. Everything but the right wing tip landing light worked. The lights are connected via small Molex connectors provided by Aeroleds with the Aeroleds RV Lighting Kit (Option 3) from Aircraft Spruce.

From the working light on the left wing tip, I could tell an adjustment was necessary to get the light to point directly ahead of the plane, and not 20 degrees off to the outboard side. To accomplish, I decided to create light tubes with flanges to mount to the inside of the wing tip to correct for the angle offset of the wing tip. I laid up fiberglass on a PVC tube to create a light tube, then cut two pieces from this to make the actual tubes. I then cut some cloth with a hole a bit smaller than the outside diameter of the light tube and epoxied this on to the tube to create a flange.
